Rotary Vane Style (DKV14C) Compressors
are prone to overheating and therefore, use a heat switch to disengage the A/C
clutch when the compressor reaches a predetermined heat threshold. This switch
is used merely as a fail-safe and is not sensed by the ECM; normal system
operation is still controlled by the standard pressure switch(es).
In order to alleviate this overheating
problem, Four Seasons is introducing a Piston Swash Style compressor as a
drop-in replacement for the DKV14C Rotary Vane. This design eliminates the need
for the heat switch as the compressor uses the suction side pressure/temperature
to cool the compressor internally.
In addition to the functional
advantages, Four Seasons’ replacement compressors provide customers more
coverage for their inventory dollar by consolidating six part numbers into
three (see chart):
